Congratulations to our own Brent Kaulback, Kelvin Redvers and T’áncháy Redvers!

The South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC) is delighted to share the exciting news that several remarkable individuals were awarded Civil Meritorious Service Medals at the prestigious investiture ceremony at Rideau Hall on June 21st. We want to give special recognition to Brent Kaulback.

Brent Kaulback served as the assistant superintendent of SSDEC and has left an indelible mark on the preservation and revitalization of Canada's Indigenous languages. Through his unwavering dedication, Brent spearheaded the publication of over 300 Indigenous language books for classrooms. Working alongside Elders and community members, he carefully curated stories, legends, and traditional teachings, transforming them into beautifully illustrated books. His efforts extended to creating dictionaries in three languages, accompanied by audio files that showcase correct pronunciation. This remarkable collection plays a vital role in preserving our rich Indigenous languages and culture.

Furthermore, Brent Kaulback made significant contributions to the film industry by helping produce "Three Feathers," a movie based on Richard Van Camp's book. This groundbreaking film was shot simultaneously in four languages: English, nēhiyawēwin, Dëne Sųłıné Yatıé, and Dene Zhatıé. Brent's involvement highlights his unwavering commitment to promoting linguistic diversity and cultural representation on the big screen.

The SSDEC would also like to acknowledge the incredible achievements of Kelvin Redvers and T’áncháy Redvers, both proud graduates of SSDEC. As co-founders of We Matter, a national youth-led Indigenous non-profit organization, Kelvin and T’áncháy have been instrumental in supporting Indigenous youth and fostering a sense of hope within their communities. Their dedication and passion inspire countless young individuals across the country to embrace their heritage, overcome challenges, and realize their full potential.

Let us celebrate the remarkable contributions of these extraordinary individuals. Their commitment, resilience, and unwavering dedication serve as an inspiration to us all.
